I love the intimacy of a portrait session. It’s one-on-one, it’s personal and I get to learn so much about them, their lives and relationships as the photographs are taken."
WALTERBOY started many years ago as a project of exploration. I’m fully self taught in all mediums so it’s been a long process to discover what my strengths are and to fully embrace my style. I was drawn to men because of how simple you get to be; there’s no hair or makeup, often it’s just natural light, myself, the model and camera.
The project has evolved somewhat throughout the years as I’ve used the models to help shape my work and to seek out people that fit with my inspiration at that time. One way its changed has been the evolution of my oil portraiture, a medium I hadn’t worked with until 2021 but once I immersed myself in it, felt strangely similar to my colour grading techniques in my work.
